Join us on Monday to call our Senators to take a stand-in and support immigrants families.
Separating families is not fixing our immigration system
On May 9, the small Iowa community of Mt. Pleasant was torn apart by an ICE (Immigration Customs and Enforcement) raid. ICE picked up 32 workers from their factory jobs, separating them from their children, spouses, and loved ones. The workers are not a threat to anyone; in fact, they are a vital part of the fabric, heart, and economy of this small Iowa community. They are neighbors and volunteers, parents and taxpayer.
Join our Allies Meeting to discuss the actions community allies can take to support low-age workers and immigrants.
Center for Worker Justice (CWJ), Eastern Iowa Community Bond Project (EICBO) and Iowa CCI are proud to present this community empowerment event where we will discuss how to keep ICE out of Iowa.
Come hear from two high-profile immigration organizers who have worked to stop deportations, collaborated to develop local policies that welcome immigrants, and fought against laws like SF 481.
We’ll be joined by Priscila Martinez with Workers Defense Project in Texas and Salvador Cervantes with Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) in Chicago who both have extensive experience organizing to stop deportations across the country.
There will be interpretation for Spanish speakers. All are welcome!
